Jude Law Biography:
David Jude Law was born on December 29, 1972 in London, England. He was named after both the Beatles song "Hey Jude" and the novel "Jude the Obscure" by Thomas Hardy. He grew up in Blackhealth, South London with his parents and older sister Natasha.
Jude attended school and when he was 12 years old, he joined the National Youth Music Theater where he fell in love with acting. He didn't graduate with the rest of his friends though, instead he dropped out of school all together at 17 in order to join the UK soap "Families" in 1990.
Jude told Carrie Fisher in her interview with him for her TV show "On the Edge" that his parents were surprisingly supportive of his decision to persue an acting career. From there, Jude began his career. Unfortunately, "Families" was cancelled soon after and it wasn't until 1992, that Jude began his stage career. He appeared in the play "Pygmalion" where he got to tour Italy.
That same year, he starred in the TV movie "The Crane." In 1994, he got the lead in the UK film "Shopping" by first time director Paul Anderson (Event Horizon, Resident Evil.) This film also allowed Jude to meet his future wife, fellow actress Sadie Frost. Although the film did horribly at the boxoffice, it did not stop Jude's ambition for acting.
It wouldn't be until 3 years later, in 1997, that Jude's career would bounce back in the film "Gattaca" starring opposite Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil" was another film with Jude that year. 1997 was certainly a good year for his carrer but another important event for him was his marriage to Sadie Frost and the birth of his first child, a son named Rafferty.
"eXistenZ" was one of Jude's next big films and shortly after, "The Talented Mr. Ripley" which gained him an Oscar nod and making this his breakthrough performance. Although he didn't win, we was not forgotten by Hollywood or his fans. He was becoming one of Hollywood's hottest rising stars but still he refused to let it get the best of him. "Enemy at the Gates" was his next film which gained him even more attention. He and Sadie had another child, a daughter named Iris in 2000 and soon after, he recieved word from Steven Speilberg on a project called "A.I." It came out in the summer of 2001 and did moderately well, keeping Jude in the spotlight once again.
In 2002, Jude starred opposite idols Tom Hanks and Paul Newman in the film "Road to Perdition." Later that same year, his third child, another son named Rudy was born. Jude and his family are currently resided in London where Jude has barely been since he began on his more recent project "Cold Mountain" starring opposite Nicole Kidman and Renee Zellweger.
