Twelve pairs of hands. One hundred and forty years of chair-side wisdom. Every product on our shelves passes through them.
Golden Beaus is a grooming atelier built by barbers and chemists who believed the modern man deserved better than department-store markup and untested formulas. This is the story of who we are, who we work with, and why our standards are deliberately slower than the industry average.
A barber and a chemist walked out of a department store, annoyed — and built the place they wished existed.
In the winter of 2019, Marcus Reed — a third-generation New York barber who had cut hair on the same Flatiron block for eleven years — and Dr. Imani Cole, a skincare chemist freshly out of a contract with a luxury maison, met at a trade show and ended up arguing about the same product for forty-five minutes. The product was fine. The price was unforgivable. The label read "for men" in five languages and meant nothing in any of them.
They opened Golden Beaus six months later out of a converted print shop on East 6th Street in Austin, with a single ambition: assemble the kind of grooming shelf a thoughtful man would build for himself if he had the time — razors that shave close without crying, beard oils that smell like a memory and not a brochure, skincare that respects a forty-year-old's skin, colognes with a point of view.
Today the company is twenty-four people. Seven of them are barbers or trichologists who answer customer questions from the chair, not a script. We still ship from East 6th. We still argue about products for forty-five minutes. We still believe the men who use what we sell deserve a slower, more honest standard than the one we inherited.
Six years in. Established, vetted, and quietly compounding.
Every figure below is a fact we publish. We refuse to round up, age down, or pretend the runway was longer than it was.
We chose craft over markup. Vetting over volume. Men over marketing. And we chose to move slowly enough that the people who use what we sell can tell the difference.
